Andrey Rappoport
Key Facts
Andrey Rappoport was born in Nova Kakhovka (Ukraine) in 1963. He attended high school in Severodonetsk.
In 1989, he graduated from the Faculty of Economics of Donetsk State University. While pursuing his degree, he participated in a student exchange program and studied at Santa Clara University, USA.
Being passionate about education, he obtained a Ph.D. in Sociology in 1997.
Having an academic background and a Ph.D. degree in Sociology, he has always appreciated the importance of education and mentorship. Andrey Rappoport has been continuously contributing his knowledge, experience and resources through a number of educational projects worldwide. He was also a founder of several academic initiatives, including Moscow School of Management Skolkovo, a leading private business school in Russia, and currently supports scientific research and provides scholarships through the charitable foundation named after himself and his spouse.
Entrepreneurship
Andrey Rappoport is currently an investor in more than 50 private equity and venture capital funds and a number of technology companies mainly in the US and European markets.
In 1991, he created his first company, a brokerage firm in Donetsk.
He was one of the first post-Soviet investors who in 1990s appreciated the importance of investing in European and US securities and investment projects with the help of leading international banks. He developed a unique chain of contacts within Swiss and global banking community.
His initial investments were made in real estate, communication, petrochemicals and others industries.
Since 2008, he participated in the acquisition, financing and development of Georgia Global Utilities (Georgian water supply company), and sold his share to Bank of Georgia Group in 2016.
By the beginning of 2022, he shifted the focus of his business activity and ended his projects in Russia.
Nowadays, he participates in investment activity through his own investment fund.

Andrey Rappoport started his carrier in management consulting in Ukraine in 1989.
In 1991, he co-founded and became the first CEO of Alfa-Bank, at the time a start-up and now the largest private bank in Russia, which he ran until 1996.
From 1997 to 1998, he served as the First Vice President for Economics and Finance of Yukos-Rosprom, a multi-industry holding and management company.
From 1998 to 2004, he held a post of Deputy Chairman of the Management Board of OAO RAO UES. He was responsible for investment and export activities of the holding company, as well assustainability and crisis management in the electric power industry.
From 1999 to 2009, he founded and headed the Board of Directors of Inter RAO UES JSC, specializing in international energy trading.
From 2002 to 2009, he was the Chairman of the Board of OAO FGC UES. As a part of restructuring reform of RAO UES, he initiated and led the creation of the country's largest electricity transmission and distribution companies. He also continued to serve as a member of the Management Board of OAO RAO UES. Having had a number of successful years in the public sector, Andrey Rappoport decided to shift his focus back to private sector and develop his own entrepreneurial projects.
From 2012 to 2013, he served as Advisor to the Chairman of the Board of Rusnano JSC.
From 2013, he has been supervising his own management company and the investment fund. Andrey Rappoport's leadership skills allowed him to successfully expand and grow his own business.
Andrey and Irina Rappoport Foundation
For 20 years, Andrey and Irina Rappoport have been supporting a broad range of social, healthcare, arts and educational developments. They are co-founders and members of the board of the Andrey and Irina - Rappoport Foundation.
Andrey Rapoport and his spouse Irina lead global philanthropy activities aimed at the most critical challenges that our society deals with today, in such areas as science and education, healthcare and arts.
From its foundation in 1996 until the beginning of 2022, Mr. Rappoport served as a member of the Board of Directors and sponsor of the charitable foundation Russian Jewish Congress. In March 2022, Mr. Rappoport resigned from the Board of Directors of the Russian Jewish Congress.
In 2006, Mr. Rappoport became one of the founding sponsors of the Moscow School of Management Skolkovo, to which he donated significant personal funds as part of his philanthropic initiatives. The business school was originally created as a 100% non-state charitable institution aimed at providing opportunities for business education by Western standards.
From 2011 to 2016, he served as Chairman of the Board of Directors and Chairman of the School's Coordinating Council, and later as one of its Board members.
In early March 2022, Mr. Rappoport resigned from the Skolkovo Board of Directors.
